The Quilt

Here it is! The long-awaited, finally completed July Quilt ~ constructed with love from the July '96 moms ~ and hand-quilted by the wonderful 88 year old woman mentioned a few posts down.

When I was pregnant with my older son, I joined an email group with other women who were pregnant and due all in July 1996. As we neared their first birthdays, many of us made multiple copies of a quilt square representing our babies, and through a coordinated effort, we all received squares from the other moms.

About 4 years ago, I sewed the squares together to make the quilt top, and picked out the fabric for the back. As the July 1996 kids were preparing to celebrate their 10th birthdays, I wanted to finish the quilt, but being inexperienced and having too many other things on my "to do" list, I just couldn't get it done myself, so my fingers did the walking and I called the Quilting Patch to find someone to help. And what a beautiful job she did with it.

My July '96 kid definitely has a keepsake ~ something to remind him, and me, of the love and support and friendship of so many other families that we never would've met were it not for the Internet.

Ahhh, how precious! And it gave me chills to think that someday it might be covering up N's children...

p.s. two more thoughts: the fabric you used for the sashing sets off the blocks really nicely. And to think that you made 30+ embroidered quilt blocks while pregnant with #2! Impressive.

Thanks! I remember working on the squares while at the beach in March when I was several weeks pregnant, and still working on them in the summer when I was several MONTHS pregnant. That's partly why I chose a simple design. It was really fun doing them.
